Unexpected Side Effect of Deforestation

It is no secret that deforestation leads to increased green house gases in that atmosphere causing global warming and a reduction in habitat for some of the worlds most endangered species.  A recent study has uncovered a new unexpected side effect of deforestation.  Scientists have found that deforestation is triggering an outbreak of malaria in Brazil.

According to a recent study published in the journal Emerging Infectious Disease:

A 4.2% change in deforestation yielded a 48% increase in malaria incidence.
